Yosemite Backpacking

Experience Yosemite as few visitors do!
This adventure is rated 3 out of 5 difficulty level. This means that adventurers should be comfortable hiking 8+ miles with elevation gain/loss of 2k+ feet. This trip requires that you are able to carry your own 55L+ backpack with all your personal gear (tent, sleeping bag, shared food, clothing etc.). Highest elevation on the trail does not exceed 9k feet. Training for this adventure should be taken seriously.
Embark on a transformative adventure with women’s group backpacking trips in Yosemite’s backcountry, where towering granite cliffs, pristine alpine lakes, and ancient sequoia groves create a breathtaking natural canvas. These trips are designed to empower women of all experience levels, from first-time backpackers to seasoned hikers, as we explore Yosemite’s hidden gems far from the crowded trails. Led by expert guides, you’ll navigate stunning wilderness areas, camp under star-filled skies, and build skills like route-finding and Leave No Trace practices, all while forming connections with a supportive group of like-minded adventurers.
This trip requires permits that are acquired 4 months in advance of the trip start date. Exact details of the trails we’ll be exploring are not confirmed until that point. Rest assured though that any part of Yosemite is absolutely spectacular! Expect mileage to be 8+ miles and 2-3k ft of elevation gain/loss per day.
Day 1: 7/26
Arrive in fresno!
Today we arrive in Fresno! Check-in for the hotel is 3pm so it’s suggested that you arrive mid-afternoon/evening. If you are earlier, you are able to drop off your luggage at the hotel and we have some recommendations for sightseeing!
We will enjoy a welcome dinner together and go over any last minute details. If you have forgotten anything, today is the day to get it before heading to Yosemite!

Day 2: 7/27
Yosemite Here we come!
This morning we will wake up and enjoy a quick breakfast at the hotel. We will be picked up by our backpacking guide by mid-afternoon for transfer to Yosemite National Park. We’ll stop along the way for short hikes in the Valley before arriving at our campground home for the night. Once we set up camp, we’ll eat a hearty dinner, get to know one another, and get the low-down on our full adventure.

Day 3: 7/28
Backcountry Exploring
Today, we begin our adventure in the backcountry! The first few miles are often the most challenging as we adjust to our weight, but the views will make it quickly worth it. Our guides will keep a comfortable pace! Total mileage on the day will likely be between 5-8 miles, depending on final permitting and trail conditions. Once at camp, we’ll review the essentials of water treatment, cooking, and keeping a safe camp.

Day 4: 7/29
Away from the crowds
After waking up to the serene sounds of the forest, we’ll pack up camp and head onward. We’ll aim to cover more miles today (8+) and may take a break along an alpine stream, stop to look for wildlife, and soak in even more stunning vistas.
Dinner tonight will be well earned after a full day on the trail!

Day 5: 7/30
Back to civilization!
The last day on the trail is here! After packing up camp, we’ll hike back out to the trailhead, taking in some final deep breaths of the mountain air as we go. Tonight, we’ll head to the town of Oakhurst where a cozy hotel room, refreshing shower, and delicious dinner at the town’s brewery await!

Day 6: 7/31
Time to Head Home!
It’s time to say goodbye to the Sierra Nevada, and your newfound friends! We’ll head back to Fresno for afternoon flights, after an amazing trip together. We can’t wait for you to join us on another epic adventure!

• Backpacking gear outside of tent and group gear. This includes backpack, daypack, water bladder, water bottle, sleeping pad, all personal clothing/toiletries.
• Alcohol, additional beverages, snacks and meals as noted above.
• Any additional excursions or activities not included in the above itinerary
• Visa and entry requirements as applicable and any pre-travel medical expenses such as immunizations or required Covid-19 testing
• Travelers insurance to cover medical expenses while traveling abroad (proof of insurance required)
• Personal expenses not included in the itinerary such as additional accommodations, transportation, meals, souvenirs, etc.

This trip also requires a minimum number of ladies to register in order for it to be confirmed.
Once the trip is confirmed, you will receive a trip confirmation email and a link to be added a private Facebook group just for trip guests. Women Who Explore guests will be required to follow the local Covid-19 guidelines and requirements as set forth by the local governing body of the destination being visited.

Travel (and medical) insurance is required for anyone traveling on a Women Who Explore adventure. Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and the specific activities involved on your adventure. Your insurance policy should also include specific Covid-19 cover, including cancellation and curtailment cover if you or a close relative are diagnosed with Covid-19.
