Explore waterfalls, wander through slot canyons, spend a day canyoneering, marvel at the natural bridges, enjoy great food, and so much more as our Utah based ambassador and owner of Desert Wander, Katie, shows you some of her favorite places in Zion!

Day 1: Welcome to Escalante!

Arrive in Escalante, Utah on the morning of May 11th, 2022 by 10:00 am. Please have breakfast before you arrive.

If you are flying in to join us, the nearest airports are:
- Cedar City, Ut - 2hr 24mins drive to Escalante
- St George, UT - 3hr 19mins drive to Escalante
- Las Vegas, NV - 5hr 7mins drive to Escalante
- Salt Lake, UT - 5hr 0mins drive to Escalante

We will meet up with Katie, owner of Desert Wander and our adventure will start with the iconic Lower Calf Creek Falls. A 130-foot waterfall oasis in the desert; this is a 6-mile hike. We’ll stop to have lunch along the trail.

After our hike we will check into the house and settle in for the weekend. Next, we will enjoy a yummy dinner, and to end our evening, we will head to Escalante Petrified Forest State Park to watch a spectacular sunset.

Day 2: Canyoneering in the Grand Staircase

After a delicious breakfast, we will meet up with our canyoneering guides in town. They will help us get ready and take us out to our canyon location. We will spend the day with them as they take us on a full day tour through a incredible slot canyon.

After we get back to town from our epic day we will see what time it is and our tiredness level. If we are still feeling adventurous and there is time, we will be able to head out to explore a few great roadside options to view pictographs and petroglyphs. When our day's adventure has come to an end, we will have dinner and rest for the night.

Day 3: Candy Cane stripes and Goblins

We will start our day a little later with a grand breakfast and a yoga stretch session. Then we will head out to discover some hidden and well-known treasures. Our first stop will be Bighorn Canyon hike; this is 3 miles. Here we will find less people and have the chance to explore the wonderful natural features including Candy Cane striped canyon walls. Lunch will be enjoyed on the trail.

After our hike we will find our way over to Devils Garden. This is a fun area with lots of rock formations, even goblins. There is no defined route so we will wander and play and take pictures. We will also enjoy dinner here and watch another gorgeous sunset. After we will drive back to the house and rest for the night.

Day 4: Slots, Slots, Slots

We’ll wake up and get going early today. We will be hiking Spooky, Peek-a-boo and Dry Forks slot canyons. These are some of the most iconic in the area. These are non technical but require scrambling, boosting, and hand lines. These are very narrow; at one point Spooky is only 10 inches wide. If body size is a concern don’t let it stop you! Spooky is just over a ¼ mile long in the slot section so you can opt to do the beginning out and back and walk up to meet us at the end. Today will be memorable as we get up close and personal with the landscape. This hike is 5.5 miles.

Day 5: Escalante Natural Bridge

We will enjoy breakfast, pack up our things and check out of the house. We will then find our way to the Escalante River; the life blood of the area. We will hike upstream to see the beautiful massive Escalante Natural Bridge and then return back down stream back to the trailhead. This hike is 4.25 miles.

We’ll return to Escalante for a celebratory lunch. After lunch we will say our goodbyes (around 3:00 pm) and head our separate ways.
