The rest of today is yours to explore the world's northernmost capital city, Reykajvik. At 6 p.m. we will all meet in the hotel lobby before meeting up with our guide to enjoy a welcome dinner together. Tonight we will enjoy getting to know our fellow explorers and chatting about the adventure ahead over a delicious dinner. Afterwards we will head back to the hotel for a good night's rest before our exciting week of adventures ahead!
Day 2: The Iconic Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon
Wake up and enjoy breakfast before we hit the road for today's adventure. We are kicking off this trip with a tour of the Golden Circle. This 190-mile route will take us to three of Iceland’s major natural attractions. Walk in the seismic rift valley of the Thingvellir National Park, marvel at the highly active Geysir Geothermal Area, and feel the drizzle of the 105-foot-tall Gullfoss, also known as the golden falls.
Our next stop is the Friðheimar greenhouse. Here we will learn how geothermal heating is used in Iceland to grow vegetables. You'll have the opportunity to pick fresh tomatoes from above your table while we enjoy lunch together.
We finish the day by unwinding at the Secret Lagoon, the oldest geothermal pool in Iceland surrounded by natural hot spring baths. To top off our day, we’ll be out on the hunt for Northern Lights tonight and every single night after!
Day 3: Glacier Hikes, Ice Climbing & South Coast Waterfalls
Wake up and enjoy a cup of coffee and breakfast before we head out to explore Iceland’s Iconic South Coast. Our adventure begins with two of Iceland’s most infamous waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss. If weather allows, we will be able to walk behind the 200-foot-high Seljalandsfoss for an epic photo opportunity.
Next we head to Sólheimajökull glacier where we will spend the afternoon hiking and ice climbing. On your hike across the glacier, you will have the opportunity to see incredible ice formations, crevasses, and tunnels up close. You will also have an opportunity to learn how to ice climb from a certified glacier guide. No experience is required for this activity.
We will finish the day with a stop at Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. We will spend some time enjoying the beach, rock formations and basalt columns. After that we will head to our accommodations, enjoy dinner and keep our eyes on the sky to watch for Northern Lights.
Day 4: Ice Caves, Glacier Lagoon, & Diamond Beach
It’s a new day with new natural phenomena! Today is a day you will always remember as we head east from our accommodations to explore more of the South Coast.
With an off-road drive in a massive super jeep, you’ll head out in search of ice caves formed inside a glacier. Take a tour of 700-year-old ice formations with an expert guide and see turquoise-tinted crystal caves.
Our next stop is the Glacier Lagoon, and after a bit of time exploring the lagoon, we will head over to Diamond Beach. This is a special black sand beach littered with glistening icebergs, it's like no other place on Earth
Finally we will retreat to our hotel for the evening, enjoy dinner and watch for the Northern Lights to dance in the sky.
Day 5: Glacier Snowmobiling & Bathe Like A Local
Rise and shine, it’s adventure time! After breakfast we will be heading to the majestic Mýrdalsjökull Glacier for a dose of adrenaline-fuelled snowmobiling today. The glacier is the fourth largest in Iceland, reaching up to 1510 m (5000 ft), and is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful glaciers in Iceland. A qualified snowmobile guide will take you whizzing across the wild and open expanse of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap offering breathtaking views over the South Coast of Iceland.
After a thrilling morning on the glacier, the afternoon will be spent relaxing at a local outdoor community pool. Fun Fact! Iceland is known for its swimming pool culture. Early settlers in the 9th and 10th century started using geothermal waters for bathing and washing clothes and in the 13th century, the first Icelandic pool came to be. Since then Icelanders have enjoyed bathing in geothermally heated warm pools all year round and this continues to play a big role in their weekly, even daily routine.
After a nice long soak, we will head back to Reykjavik to check into our hotel for the evening. We will head out for dinner tonight at a local restaurant as we enjoy our final evening soaking in our adventures from the past week. If we are lucky, tonight we will be dazzled with a final Northern Lights show.
