COME BACKPACK WITH US AS WE EXPLORE THE ESCALANTE RIVER!
During this 3 day/2 night backpacking adventure you'll discover one of the life blood rivers of Southern Utah. Huge alcoves, amazing natural bridges, waterfalls, river walking and so much more!! This adventure is for all skill levels and it includes all your backpacking gear so you can travel light! It's also the perfect opportunity if you have been wanting to try out backpacking but don't have the gear!
We’re meeting in St George Utah. If you are flying in to join us, the nearest airports are:
- St George, UT - uber/lyft/taxi/local bus or Katie can shuttle you from the airport to your hotel
- Las Vegas, NV - rental car or shuttle options - 2hr drive
- Salt Lake, UT - rental car or shuttle options - 4hr 32min drive
- Cedar City, Ut - rental car or shuttle options - 1hr drive
Day 1: Let's Go Explore the River!
St George Pickup will be approximately 6:00am from your hotel and shuttle to Escalante. A list of hotels will be provided.
Arrive in Escalante, Utah on the morning of Jun 2nd, 2022 by 9:30 am.
Once we arrive we load our backpacks and prepare for our adventure. We will leave Escalante by 10:30 am and make our way to our trailhead. We will hike 6.5 miles down the Escalante river to the confluence of Death Hollow Canyon. We will enjoy multiple petroglyph panels and a giant alcove along the way.
We will make camp and enjoy our dinner and first night under the stars.
Day 2: Death Hollow Exploration
After breakfast, we will day hike 7.4 miles with our day packs out and back down through Death Hollow. We will enjoy high canyon walls, narrow areas, waterfalls, possible swims and so many other great features. We will take our time and soak it all in.
We will have lunch on the trail today. Once back at camp we will enjoy dinner and our second and final night under the stars.
Day 3: Back to Town We Go
After breakfast we will pack up camp and hit the trail to hike 6.2 miles more down river. We will have lunch on the trail. We will enjoy more petroglyphs, a cliff house, a large arch and a massive natural bridge.
Once at Hwy 12 we will start our drive back to St George. We will stop about half way back at the famous Creamery in Beaver Utah where you can purchase dinner (or just ice cream or both). We will be back in St George by 8:00pm
- All backpacking gear - backpack, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, cook set (pot, spork, stove, fuel), trekking poles, chair, water bottles, water filter, and day pack
- Transportation once you arrive in St. George, UT
- Guided hiking on amazing local trails that includes specialized gear such as trekking poles.
- All guides and entry fees
- All meals provided - Thursday lunch through Saturday lunch
- Hiking snacks
- Water, coffee, tea, hot coco
- Transportation to/from the airport if you arrive before the trip start date
- Alcoholic Beverages, energy drinks, electrolyte replacements
- Breakfast Thursday morning and dinner on Saturday evening
- Travelers Insurance
All meals will be provided as noted above. Please reach out to the trip host after booking if you have any food allergies/sensitivities. We will do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions but cannot make any guarantees.
This trip requires a minimum number of ladies to register in order for it to be confirmed. Once the trip reaches the minimum participant number, you will receive a trip confirmation email and a link to be added a private Facebook group just for trip guests. In this group further trip details will be provided. Please let us know if you do not have or use Facebook (see contact information below).

Covid-19 Travel Policy:
As of January 1st, 2022, trips and events that involve accommodations in the outdoors (e.g. camping in individual tents) do not require you to be vaccinated. However, if you do not provide proof of vaccination, you MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF A NEGATIVE PCR COVID TEST within 72 hours of the trip start date and time. Note that rapid tests will not be accepted at this time. All of this is subject to the requirements of the operator and trip destination. In other words, if the Operator requires you to be vaccinated to participate, then you must provide proof of vaccination 14 days prior to the trip date. All participants and staff will wear masks when social distancing is not possible (i.e. driving, cooking, etc.) or when requested by a guide. The cost of any required Covid-19 testing is not included in the trip price and will need to be paid and arranged by trip participants. Any additional related expenses including but not limited to testing, vaccinations, treatment, quarantines, and travel costs incurred as a result of a positive Covid-19 will be the responsibility of the trip participant.

MEET YOUR TRIP LEADER - SOUTHERN UTAH AMBASSADOR - KATIE
Katie is an adventurer at heart. She has explored and wander in and around Southern Utah for the last 20 years. Canyons, wide open vistas, sandstone and sagebrush are her favorite!
She has worked in some form of recreation since she started working. Her love for backpacking took full force the year and a half she spent working for an outdoor behavioral company as a guide in 2004. Since then marriage and family has been her many focus with work on the side. She has been married for 17 years and has 4 great kids. As her kids have grown she has been able to pursue her passion to help women experience the outdoors safely and have the best time doing it. She started Desert Wander last year, yes 2020! She hopes to cultivate an amazing experience for all who come wander with her.
