This incredible wonder in Washoe County, Nevada was actually formed by mistake. Workers drilling a well hit geothermal boiling water and abandoned the project. Over time, calcium carbonate deposits began to form as water erupted from the opening. The other-worldly looking mound grew by several inches each year, developing into a six-foot-tall colourful formation.
