Hi. I’m Lindsay. If you had told me 5 years ago that I’d be running an all woman community and hosting getaways all over the world, I would have called you crazy. My sister Jenny and I started Women Who Explore as a way to meet other like-minded women. I was a travel writer at the time and found that life on the road could be lonely. We started the Instagram account to connect to other women, share our experiences in the outdoors and offer a safe space free of judgement. Little did we know just how many women felt the same as we did!
But here I am. Running Women Who Explore full-time. Still traveling the world, but doing it with an amazing new, growing tribe. I’m a mum of 2, afraid of butterflies, and tired most of the time. I’m also strong, badass, here to cheer you on and revel in your accomplishments. I can’t wait for you to join our community and discover just how amazing you really are.
Hi, I’m Jenny, the other co-founder of Women Who Explore! I am currently living out my dream running a company that we created for women, with my sister Lindsay. Growing up in Southern Ontario, we didn’t have access to the mountains, but once I relocated to Alberta my whole world changed. After finding the outdoors to be super intimidating, Lindsay and I decided we needed to create a space for all women who wanted to explore.
Women Who Explore has not only been a life-changer for me, but for hundreds of thousands of women around the world. I’ve met more incredible women in the past two years than I have throughout my life. I am checking off my bucket list, inspiring my daughter and frankly still terrified of camping alone in bear country.
I didn’t discover a love of the outdoors until a bit later in life. I always enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, but doing so out in nature was something I started after turning 30. I was inexperienced and nervous about other people noticing that. There was a lot of trial and error with much of it being easily avoided if I had just asked for help. I was just too insecure to do so. Fast forward a few years and I stumble across Women Who Explore and they just happen to be looking for ambassadors. The group felt safe and unpretentious, I was hooked.
I work full time in marketing and co-own a production company that specializes in filmmaking and photography. I am a desert dweller at heart, but enjoy visiting the mountains, especially during the Arizona summer! I enjoy trying new outdoor activities and exploring new environments, especially those that are not in my comfort zone! It’s been amazing combining my love of the outdoors and my skillset for such a great organization.
Getaway Coordinator / Photographer
Fourteen years ago, depression and anxiety had led me to a place where I felt I could not go on, it ruled my world. And then, my husband gave me a camera for Christmas in 2012. I ended up going out in nature, exploring and capturing the beauty around me. I haven’t had a depressive episode since 2013. Photography helped me see life in a different way: if it’s dark, I adjust the settings and there is light. After moving back from living in Malaysia in 2016, my life felt like it was turned upside down. Reverse culture shock took a toll, and I felt as lonely as I did in my darkest days of depression.
I discovered Women Who Explore on Instagram and signed up for their Golden Getaway. Lindsay and Jenny loved the images I captured of the weekend so much, they asked me to come photograph other getaways. I now work with Women Who Explore as a Getaway Coordinator and Photographer. Women Who Explore has introduced this unfit 47 year old, mother of two, to a new lifestyle and a large community of women who inspire me on a daily basis to face fears and get out and explore.
Ambassador / Intake Coordinator
I am a prairie girl born and raised with a passion for exploring beyond my home province. I am especially drawn to the mountains and am always up for a road trip to the Rockies! Aside from being a proud team member of Women Who Explore, I’m also a wife, dog mom, wine lover & nurse. I’ve been an LPN for over ten years, working various areas such as palliative care, long term care and now the Operating Room for 6 years.
Although I love the OR and I love taking care of people, I found in the past the stress of nursing could often take its toll on me. It was then that I truly fell in love with the outdoors as a mode of self healing. There is nowhere better to clear my head and refresh. When I’m not scrubbed in for surgery, I love being outdoors camping, hiking, snowboarding, stand up paddle boarding and trying to learn to use my camera (I have a lot of learning to do here!). Finding my place at Women Who Explore has been a true blessing, and I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes me!
Ambassador / Manager
Growing up in small town Minnesota, I always had the desire to explore. My first big adventure was living and studying in Chile where I fell I love with traveling. Next I headed out on a month long solo trip to Europe, followed by over a year of living, working and adventuring in Cost Rica. More recently, I’ve spent time exploring places in Southeast Asia and South America.
Shortly after moving to Portland, I began spending all my free time in the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood National Forest hiking, chasing waterfalls and camping. There was something magical about bright-green mossy covered forests, filled with giant trees and thundering waterfalls that took my breath away and made me fall in love with the way it feels to be in the outdoors.
For me, Women Who Explore is the community of women I have always been looking for. I love being around like-minded women who support and empower one another. Through Women Who Explore’s local events and weekend getaways, I have met so many incredible friends and I’ve had some really amazing experiences like summiting my first mountain!
I can’t wait to share an adventure with you!
