So, lace up your hiking boots, embrace the spirit of adventure, and let the East Fjords reveal their secrets as we embark on this unforgettable journey together!

Day 1:

Welcome to iceland!

Welcome to Iceland, the land of fire and ice! Meet at the Keflavik airport (KEF), the main airport in Iceland, at 10 a.m. Your trip leader will be there to meet you. Together we will head to Reykjavik and check into our hotel for the next two evenings.

The rest of today is yours to explore the world's northernmost capital city, Reykajvik. Admire the city's colorful and unique architecture, indulge in traditional cuisine, visit a one-of-a-kind museum, head out for a whale watching tour, climb to the top of the Hallgimskirkja church for views of the city, or wander the local shops. Today is your opportunity to explore the city or take some time to relax.

Tonight you will have the choice to dine with the group or enjoy dinner at the place of your choice. From fine dining to hot dogs to local breweries, there are plenty of delicious options to choose from within walking distance of your hotel. After enjoying a delicious dinner out, we will head back to the hotel to get some rest for our big week ahead!

Day 2:

Explore Reykjavik or Choose Your Own Bucket-list Adventure!

Wake up and enjoy breakfast on your own accord. Today is your day to choose your own Iceland bucket-list adventure or spend the day relaxing and exploring the city before we hit the trails tomorrow.

Reykjavik is a city with tons to do! Spend more time wandering the shops and vintage stores, visit one of the many museums (we suggest the Perlan to learn about the geography and history of Icelan), book a whale watching tour that leaves from downtown, or plan your own bucket-list adventure like the snorkeling the Silfra Straight or visiting the Golden Circle. The city offers loads of great pubs and restaurants where you can enjoy lunch and dinner at a place of your choice today.

We also suggest using this day to pick up any rented equipment, grab some fun local trail snacks and get your backpacks ready to go - our boots hit the ground and our trekking adventure begins as soon as we get off the plane tomorrow!

Today we have an early wake up as we make our way to the domestic airport to catch the morning flight from Reykjavik (RKV) to Egilsstaðir (ESG). Upon arrival we will be greeted by our guide - have your bags packed and be ready to go because it’s go time when we hit the ground!

Our flight should arrive around 10 a.m., and from here we will begin our hike to Stórurð, an area featuring enormous tuff boulders strewn across a seamless blend of meadows and lakes. We will stop to enjoy our packed lunch along the trail as we take in the stunning views. After lunch our day continues as we approach the Borgafjörður Eystri Fjord, a charming place with only 100 inhabitants offering a great variety of hiking routes and a marina for observing puffins. Here we will settle into our hotel for the evening and be rewarded with a delicious local fish soup and other delicacies.

The rest of the night is yours to relax, and there will also be an option to go and visit the puffins in the evening!

From here we make our way towards Breiðuvíkur, a farmstead nestled in the little cove of Kjólsvik where we will enjoy a packed lunch. After a well-deserved snack, we will continue hiking towards Glettinganes. Make sure to watch your step as the trail gets a bit rocky in this part.

Our day ends at a cozy cabin near the beaches of Breiðuvík where we will settle in for the evening. After a little time to relax, we will meet together to prepare a delicious local recipe led by our local guide and trip host. If you are up for an extra adventure after dinner, head to the beach and enjoy leisurely stroll as the sun sets for the day.

Day 5:

Víknaslóðir hike: Breiðavík — Húsavík

Rise and shine, it’s trekking time! A warm cup of coffee and hot breakfast are waiting for you to begin the day. Today our journey takes us west from the cove and across the Stóruá river via a good footbridge. As the trail turns south, views of a spectacular valley will unfold. This small valley is quite the sight, surrounded by Hvítuhnjúkur, Hvítafjall, and Hvítserk mountains with a deep blue hue of lapis lazul mixed in, this special place is ideal for a lunch break, leisurely stroll, and some banger photos!

As we continue, we will reach the two lakes, Gæsavatn and Urðarhólavatn. From here we will continue to walk up to the road which will lead us to Húsavík. Here we will soon reach our accommodations for the evening, a cozy mountain hut located on the site of a small, old farm that has been deserted since the 1950s. Once we arrive, we will settle in, relax and prepare dinner together as a group.

Day 6:

Húsavík — Loðmundarfjörður

After breakfast today, we will have a little bit of leisure time to explore Húsavík, the largest cove in Víknáslóðir.

Mid-morning we will begin walking along an easy road towards the Loðmundarfjörður fjord. Get ready for some epic scenery!!! After crossing over the Nesháls ridge and reaching Loðmundarfjörður, we will take some time for a break to take in the beauty of this area and of course get those banger, IG worthy photos. From here on a clear day, you will be spoiled with incredible views of both Loðmundarfjörður and Dalatanga from the ridge.

We will spend some time wandering around Loðmundarfjörður, a fjord that was once home to one of the most remote and inaccessible communities in all of Iceland. If we are lucky, we will have a chance to spot eider ducks, seals, reindeer, or even wild horses, all of them roaming the vast moorland of this area.

Today we will end at a cozy mountain hut where we will kick off our boots, relax with a beverage and enjoy a home-cooked dinner before snuggling into our sleeping bags for the evening.

Distance: 15 km / 9.3 miles
Ascent/Descent: 600m (1970ft) / 600 m (1970ft)

Day 7:

Loðmundarfjörður — Seyðisfjörður

Kick off the final day of our adventure with a fresh cup of coffee and hot breakfast as you enjoy the view.

Today we will be hiking up to Hjálmárdalsheiði, which lies at an altitude of around 600 m (1,970 ft). From here we will make our way out of the fjord towards to the old town site Hjálmárströnd, but before we get there, we’ll hit a road. The path you are walking is an ancient one between two fjords, and it is relatively easy. We will stop to enjoy lunch at this spot and enjoy a little rest.

At the end of the road, we will arrive at the edge of Seyðisfjörður, and from here we will navigate our way through Kækjuskárð. As we descend down a fairly steep slope, we will approach the end of our journey arriving in the charming town of Seyðisfjörður.

Here enjoy some free time to explore town and grab a well-earned beverage and snack  before heading back to Egilsstaðir Airport. We will be taking the last flight of the day at 7:30 p.m. back to Reykjavik, or if you want, feel free to stay longer in the area!

We plan to arrive at the airport by 1 pm in order for you to catch an afternoon or evening flight back home or you can stick around and continue exploring Iceland on your own!
