I have booked 4 campsites near each other at the New River Trail State Park – Millrace at Foster Falls location. Note: there are no bathhouses, pit toilets only!
THERE WILL BE A SMALL FEE FOR THIS EVENT! The total to book 4 campsites for 2 nights was $230. Cost will be determined based on number of attendees, but plan for around $20/pp. Each campsite allows 2 tents, so if you are open to sharing a tent please let me (Jess Lavoie) know as I may be able to open up additional slots if needed! Also, once payment amount is determined and paid, refunds will only be given if your slot can be filled.
Check-in is at 4pm on Friday, September 9th and you may arrive any time after that. Please note that this is a walk-in campsite but it’s a very short walk and there are often wagons there to help you move your gear. Check-out is on Sunday, September 11th at 1pm. You are welcome to leave at any time before then!
There are also tubes you can rent to float down the river! I’ve done this in the past and it’s pretty slow moving/shallow, but it does drop off at the end and get deeper so be prepared to go under water! Renting canoes and kayaks is also an option. Guided horse rides may also be an option!
GEAR: This is a beginner friendly event! If you would like to join and you do not have gear, please reach out to me (Jess Lavoie) and I will see if we can get you all set up to borrow gear and try out camping!
Otherwise, you should bring your tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad/mattress, camp chair, swim wear (swim shoes recommended), towel, camp mug (if you want coffee for breakfast!), spoon/fork that you can use all weekend for meals (I will provide paper plates), clothing/toiletries, water bottle/drinks (potable water is available at the campground), portable phone charger, sunscreen
***this is not an exhaustive list! The nice thing about car camping is you can bring “just in case” or extra comfort items (pillows!), so bring whatever you think you may need to make your weekend enjoyable!
FOOD: My hope is to make community meals – think pita pizzas over the campfire for dinner, pancakes for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, etc. I will touch base with everyone before the trip so we can determine who will bring what! Please feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks!
DIRECTIONS: New River Trail State Park is a 57 mile rail trail and state park! There are three different campsites and they aren’t close to each other, so please insure you use the correct address. We are at the Millrace at Foster Falls location at 116 Orphanage Drive in Max Meadows, VA. I will be providing a campground map to all attendees.
