Women Who Explore is excited to be teaming up with our friends at Salomon and our Utah ambassador and owner of Desert Wander, Katie DeMille, to bring you an unforgettable long weekend exploring the stunning area of Greater Zion. Enjoy wet and dry hikes, canyoneering, SUP yoga, great food, camping under the stars and so much more.... all in your new pair of Salomon Mid GTX Lifestyle Hiking Boots!

Day 1: Welcome to Zion! (Glendale, UT)

Arrive in Glendale, Utah on the morning of Sep 30th by 10:00 am and meet at Zion Family Ranch Campground. Upon arrival you will have time to settle in, get ready for today’s hike and meet the other ladies joining this long weekend adventure!
If you are flying in to join us, the nearest airports are:

- St George Ut - 1hr 45min drive
- Las Vegas NV - 3hr 30min drive
- Salt Lake Ut - 4hr 15min drive

Around 11:30 am we will head out for our first hike to Cable Mountain, overlooking the main canyon of Zion National Park. We will take our time on the trail enjoying in the fall colors and taking in the views during this 7.5 mile hike. To keep you fueled, a yummy packed lunch will be provided. We’ll arrive back at our campground in late afternoon where we can relax and enjoy the quiet setting. The private pond has kayaks for our use. We will get to know each other better over a delicious dinner to end our evening.

Day 2: Hoodoo and SUP Yoga
 
After a delicious breakfast at camp, we will pack up and head to Red Canyon State Park. Today we will be hiking Thunder Mountain; not the one at Disneyland but this is the one the ride was named after! This hike is approximately 8 miles so don’t forget to pack your sack lunch for today’s adventure. During our hike we will hike among the tall pine trees and take in some amazing vistas of the iconic hoodoos this area is known for. After our hike, we will treat ourselves to yummy pie! 

Once we're done with our hike we will head back to our camp and relax a little before our private SUP yoga session in the afternoon on a private pond in a lush valley setting. We’ll end our night with group dinner and rest up for our big adventure tomorrow!

Day 3: Canyoneering and the Heart of Zion

We will be starting out early today! Breakfast will be a grab and go style. We will meet up with Always Adventure, who will be driving us and guiding us through a technical canyon today! Our adventure starts with an hour long, scenic and fun 4x4 drive as we make our way to the trailhead. Once we arrive the real adventure begins! We will gear up and begin our descend into Rock Canyon filled with incredible rappels and down climbs that won’t disappoint!

Once we arrive at the bottom of Rock Canyon, we will be standing in the East Fork of the Virgin River, the area known as Parunuweap. This is an iconic Zion beauty not to miss! With no crowds, we will spend a few hours exploring the river canyon area where we will see side canyons, petroglyphs, and narrow slots. After we are done exploring, we will return up river to Rock Canyon and make our exit. At the top we will treated to personal gourmet pizzas prepared in a portable pizza oven.

After dinner we will return by 4x4 and head back to camp. This day we will walk/hike approximately 9.5 miles. 

Day 4: World’s Longest Slot Canyon

We’ll wake up and enjoy our last morning at camp together. After breakfast, we will break camp and head out for our last adventure together. You’ll drive your personal car as far as Kanab where we’ll safely leave them until we return from the hike. Today we will be exploring 6 miles of Buckskin Gulch via Wire pass. For the next 3 hours we will hike you through an amazing canyon, with its narrow and oh so tall walls. After we reach our half way mark, we will turn around and head back to the vehicle the same way we came. 

We’ll return to Kanab for a celebratory late lunch at Wild Tyme Café which features amazing farm to table dishes! After lunch we will say our goodbyes (around 4:00 pm) and head our separate ways.

- 4 Days/3 nights accommodations at a beautiful private campground; single occupancy. All camping gear is included. Discounts on double occupancy or providing your own are available; see below.

- Guided hiking on amazing local trails that includes specialized gear such as neoprene socks 
- Canyoneering & 4x4 driving adventure tour; includes guide, all gear and safety equipment

Meals: All meals will be provided. Please reach out to the trip host after booking if you have any food allergies/sensitivities. We will do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions but cannot make any guarantees.

Trip Confirmation: This trip requires a minimum number of ladies to register in order for it to be confirmed. Once the trip reaches the minimum participant number, you will receive an trip confirmation email and a link to be added a private Facebook group just for trip guests. In this group further trip details will be provided. Please let Lindsey know if you do not have or use Facebook (see contact information below).

Cost: $1,195 per person for single occupancy; all gear included

Discounts: A discount of $75 is available if you choose to bring your own camping gear or $50 if you choose to share a tent. To share a tent, you must be vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination prior to registration. You will be randomly paired with another participant if you elect this option. Cancellation Policy: Due to the nature of this trip, payment is non-refundable at the time of purchase. If you can no longer attend, you are able to transfer your ticket to another guest. You are responsible for finding someone to transfer your ticket to and arranging the exchange of funds. Please get in touch with the Women Who Explore to discuss the transfer of your ticket. We may be able to assist if there is a wait list.

We will be biking the Katy Trail, spending the afternoon in Rocheport , dinner in Boonville and a tour at Budweiser’s Warm Springs Ranch.

Saturday 10/8 (morning) – we will meet at the Boonville Trailhead (exact time to be determined later) and ride together from Boonville to Rocheport. This is a 12.4 mile ride each way. You must bring your own bike and supplies (extra tire tubes, bike tools, water, etc.)

Saturday 10/8 (afternoon) – afternoon in Rocheport. Spend the day shopping/eating in downtown Rocheport or at Les Bourgeois Winery. The A-Frame Winegarden overlooks the Missouri River and includes outdoor patio seating & picnic style menu options with an unbeatable blufftop view. If you prefer a more upscale yet casual environment and larger menu you may also dine at the Bistro as well.

Saturday 10/8 (evening) – group dinner at Brew Brother’s restaurant within the Isle of Capri hotel. We have reserved the party room for 2.5 hours (up to 30 people). Afterwards some of us may end up doing a little gambling. At the time of the dinner please pay Ambassador Jackie Runk $5 for the cost of the room.

Sunday 10/9 (morning)– Warms Springs Ranch Guided Walking Tour @ 11am. This typically lasts 90 minutes and the cost is $15. YOU MUST REGISTER ON THEIR WEBSITE ASAP as they fill up many months in advance. Tours offered start at 10am, 10:30am and 11am however we will shoot for the 11am tour time. NO REFUNDS. Tours proceed in rain or shine. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your tour time.

Sunday 10/9 (afternoon): drive back home to KC.

A fully informational experience, the tour will bring you to spots and sights you’ll never forget. See Clydesdale luxury trailers, our 1903 beer wagon, equipment worn by the Clydesdales out on the road, and more. Plus, meet Clydesdales of all ages!

Cameras are permitted throughout the tour, so be sure to take pictures that will last a lifetime. This tour route is ADA compliant and handicap accessible. Guests 21 and older receive a sample free Budweiser beer on tap.

**Masks are not required for those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19. We ask that guests who have yet to receive the vaccine wear masks and practice social distancing while visiting. Thank you.**

What to bring: please bring appropriate clothing for the weekend, your own bike, bike pump, back up tubes, bike tool, helmet, cable bike lock, lots of water, cell phone charger, wrist watch, camera, spending money, umbrella, etc. No items will be provided by Women Who Explore – KC or your ambassador.

We will have a bike maintenance class in the spring and in the fall we will schedule a meeting for all those attending this event.

meet Your trip leader - southern Utah ambassador - Katie

Katie is an adventurer at heart. She has explored and wander in and around Southern Utah for the last 20 years. Canyons, wide open vistas, sandstone and sagebrush are her favorite!  She has worked in some form of recreation since she started working. Her love for backpacking took full force the year and a half she spent working for an outdoor behavioral company as a guide in 2004. Since then marriage and family has been her many focus with work on the side. She has been married for 17 years and has 4 great kids. As her kids have grown she has been able to pursue her passion to help women experience the outdoors safely and have the best time doing it. She started Desert Wander last year, yes 2020! She hopes to cultivate an amazing experience for all who come wander with her.
