About this Adventure...
Known as the Galapagos of Canada, Haida Gwaii is a beautiful archipelago off the coast of Western BC. It has an abundance of life, nature, culture and beauty, and was featured as one of National Geographic's top places to visit. This is a small group getaway for only 6 women, that will get to explore the beautiful ancient rainforests, beaches, learn about the Haida culture and more!

Here's the plan...
Saturday June 15th
We’ll meet bright and early at the Vancouver airport (6am) to fly to Haida Gwaii together. It is recommended that you stay in Vancouver by the airport the night of June 14th, as the flight departs very early.
Once we arrive we’ll pick up our rental car we can head to Old Masset to search for some of the old totem poles.
Then we’ll make our way to our beach front house to settle in, have some lunch and prepare for our adventure filled days!
During the afternoon we’ll head out to Tow Hill stretch our legs and check out the view and the Blow Hole!
Then we’ll comb North Beach, searching for treasures like agates and glass fishing floats and most importantly our dinner! We’ll get some dip nets and head out while the tide is receding to catch some dungeness or red rock crab for dinner.
After we’ll have a delicious first dinner together that we caught (learning to cook and clean the crabs is optional) and have an official welcome toast!
Enjoy a relaxing evening our cozy beach house with hot drinks and our first beautiful sunset, till the sound of the waves help you drift off to sleep.
Sunday June 16th
Once you’ve had a good night’s rest, we’ll start our day with a hearty breakfast and pack our lunches for a day of exploring part of Naikoon Provincial Park.
We’ll warm up with a short, easy hike to the spot of the legendary Golden Spruce. (I suggest reading The Golden Spruce by John Vallant to learn the history of the Golden Spruce, Haida Culture and some of Haida Gwaii’s history).
Then we’ll embark on a 4 hour (return) hike to the Pestua Shipwreck. Upon this 10 KM, moderately easy hike we through rainforest, along the Tlell river and then down East Beach, where we may be able to sight some marine wildlife such as whales and sea lions.
We can then explore the artisan shops in Tlell, and maybe pick up a souvenir or two.
We’ll end the day with dinner at our cozy house, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying another beautiful sunset.
Monday June 17th
We’ll start the day off with another hearty breakfast at the house, then head to the southern end of Graham Island.
Once in Skidegate village we’ll head on a 2 hour (return) hike on the Spirit Lake trail, where we’ll hike through dense rainforest covered in ferns, moss and lichen. It is also an opportunity to view CMTs (Culturally Modified Trees). Trees with removed bark strips - an art of the Haida First Nation people of removing a strip of bark from a cedar tree (so not to harm the tree), which they would use for building baskets, tools, mats and much more.
We’ll then head to the Haida Heritage Centre and Museum, to learn about the Haida people and their culture and history.
Hopefully you’ve worked up an appetite from all the hiking and exploring because we’ll be celebrating our last night in Haida Gwaii with a traditional dinner cooked by a local in their own home!
Once our bellies are full we’ll head back to our cozy beach house.
Not only will we enjoy a beautiful sunset but we will be able to celebrate our last night with the full moon!
Tuesday June 18th
Sadly today is departure day. We will have to be at the Masset airport by 10:30 am to fly back to Vancouver.
From there we’ll say our farewells and each head home with a heart (and probably camera) full of amazing adventure memories.

How are Women Who Explore Events different from other events?
The number one goal is to introduce you to other kick-ass, adventurous women. It’s all about building tribes! Our second goal is to introduce you to the outdoors. It’s quite the thing to witness, putting a group of women who are passionate about the outdoors in an epic location. We know it’s a cliche thing to say… but it’s where the magic happens.
Do you arrange transport to the event?
No. You are responsible for your own transportation to the events
Do I need travel insurance?
All of our tours require that you have medical travel insurance which includes at least USD$200,000 worth of emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage. Two weeks before departure we will ask you for proof of coverage. Cancellation insurance is recommended but not mandatory.
Is food included?
Yes. Unless otherwise specified in the trip itinerary or information.
Is there a minimum age for this event?
19+ for all events in Canada. 21+ for all events in the USA.
I want to book with friends. How do I do that?
The best way is to add all of the tickets to one cart, that way you know if we have enough spaces.
I'm coming solo. Is that okay?
YES! More than 70% of women who sign up for our trips, sign up solo.
Is a deposit required to secure my place?
Yes. Deposits vary from trip to trip. Check each individual event page for details.
What if I need to cancel?
Please let us know as soon as possible. Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds but you can transfer your ticket. If you can no longer make the event, please get in touch to discuss transferring your ticket.
What is your refund policy?
Due to the nature of the Women Who Explore getaways, we don’t offer refunds. We do, however, offer transfers. You are responsible for finding someone to transfer your ticket to and arranging the exchange of funds for your ticket. If you can no longer make the event, please get in touch to discuss transferring your ticket.
How many people will be going to the event?
Our group sizes vary, but never exceed more than 20 people. This gives us the chance to really connect with one another and to make sure each individual has the best time possible.
Who will be managing our trip?
One of our awesome trained ambassadors will be running your trip.
Is there a strict daily itinerary?
There is an itinerary for each getaway, but we realize everyone has their own needs. When you purchase a getaway, you will join a private Facebook Group to work out all the details. We will help facilitate to the best of our ability!
Do I have to join in on all the activities?
You can still join us on the getaway, the ticket price remains the same. You are not required to join in on all the activities. You do you!
Are these tech-free events?
Nope! We happen to love social media and sharing what are doing with others. We find it so inspiring! You can choose to be tech-free, but we encourage you to share your experiences digitally if you feel like it.
What if the weather doesn't cooperate?
Let’s be honest, Mother Nature never cooperates. That’s why we love her. Keep an eye on the forecast and pack accordingly. We never let uncooperative weather ruin our fun!
